It is a humbling experience photographing in an abandoned place. Everything eventually comes to an end. The thoughts about what may have happened to people who lived in that place and what might happen to me if I encounter something unexpected…the prospect of entering such a place is always frightening at first. After my nerves calm down, I try to gradually explore the place and photograph what speaks to me. I have learned over the years that the silence in these spaces is what connects with me the most and through this silence and the things people have left behind, I can get closer to the soul of the place.
